How to beat perfectionism

I know a lot of people who are self-proclaimed perfectionists. I also have those tendencies but at the same time, I know that perfectionism is a trap. It can also be a good excuse not to do something. The projects you are working on are always “not ready, yet”, they need a final once over. I think sometimes we can hide behind being perfectionists. We are so afraid of not getting something 100% right that we don’t do it all.

That is not a good place to be. It is not good to have regrets that we didn’t do something that we really wanted to do. I say, start …. start somewhere, anywhere but start. Then you can improve, you can perfect, you can learn and grow but you need to start. Don’t give in to excuses. The inspiration to do more and come up with more creative ideas often follows once you start creating. Creativity breads creativity. True it might not be perfect at the start but often times it takes hard work to perfect something or to get it to where you would like it to be. After all we are all humans and failure is sometimes to be expected.

Therefore, start, have realistic expectations and don’t be too hard on yourself. Be prepared to put in the work and time and fingers crossed it will pay off but you have to beat the procrastination, beat the excuses, you have to risk that it will not be perfect but  it might. Also think about the time you are letting pas you by. I know the quote that goes like this “The best time to start was yesterday. The next best time is now.”

Good luck friends.
